Build Your Dreams, popularly known as BYD is a popular Chinese EV manufacturer. BYD updated their entry level car in India which is the Atto 3. The electric SUV is now available in a total of three variants and it is about Rs. 9 lakhs for affordable thanks to the addition of a new base trim called Dynamic. Now, let’s discuss the updates in more detail.

The base Dynamic trim gets a newer smaller battery pack as compared to the other trims. The Dynamic trim features a 49.92 kWh battery pack while the higher trims get a larger 60.48 kWh battery pack. The power figures are the same in all the trims as there is no change in motor. The BYD Atto 3 can deliver a power output of 204 PS and 310 Nm of torque.

As far as driving range is concerned, the smaller battery pack delivers a claimed range of 468 km on a single charge. On the other hand, the bigger battery pack has a claimed range of 521 km on a single charge. Charging has also seen a downgrade in the base Dynamic trim.

The upper Premium and Superior trims get an 80 kW DC charging support while the Dynamic variant gets a 70 kW DC charging support. Furthermore, the 80 kW DC charger can charge the SUV from zero to eighty percent in just fifty minutes.

In addition to the new variants, the company has also introduced new exterior color option named as Cosmos Black. This new color joins the existing color options which are Ski White, Boulder Grey and Surf Blue. If you are interested in buying a BYD Atto 3, you can book the electric SUV by paying a booking amount of Rs. 50,000.

Rajeev Chauhan, Head of Electric Passenger Vehicles (EPV) Business, BYD India said,

Unveiling this extended lineup of three variants of the BYD Atto 3 – Dynamic, Premium and Superior – is a significant milestone for us and a pivotal moment in India’s electric vehicle landscape. We have also introduced the Cosmos Black Edition, adding an element of style and colour to our new lineup. Our diversified offerings not only expand our product portfolio but also pave the way for a more inclusive EV future. We aim to make premium electric mobility accessible to a broader audience. With the launch of these new variants, we are one step closer to realizing this vision.

Some of the key features of the BYD Atto 3 are 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an 8-speaker system, a panoramic sunroof, 6-way power-adjustable driver seat, 60:40 split rear seats, and 5-inch digital driver’s display.

The base Dynamic variant misses out on a lot of features as compared to the top variant. This includes powered tailgate, adaptive LED headlights, and multi-colour ambient lighting. Additionally, it gets a 6 speaker setup instead of the 8 speaker setup in the upper trims.

The mid spec Premium trim just misses out on adaptive LED headlights as compared to the top end Superior trim. However, only the top end trim gets advanced driver assistance system (ADAS).

As a new base trim is introduced, the Atto 3 has become more affordable with a starting price of just Rs. 24.99 lakh. The other two trims are Premium and superior which are priced at Rs. 29.85 lakh and Rs. 33.99 lakh respectively. At this price point the BYD Atto 3 will directly compete with upcoming EVs such as the Creta EV, Maruti Suzuki eVX, and the Harrier EV. Current competition for the BYD Atto 3 is limited to the MG eZS now that the Hyundai Kona has been discontinued.
