250cc bike makes 50 Bhp, costs over 10 lakh [Video]

Kawasaki is now having an extensive lineup of motorcycles in the Indian two-wheeler market, ranging from an entry-level W175 commuter to the hyper sports Ninja H2R which is meant only for track riding purposes. However, there are still some motorcycles from Kawasaki which are not available yet in India, one of them being the pocket-rocket Ninja ZX-25R. While the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-25R is yet to reach Indian shores officially, someone from the country has already imported one indirectly.

An Instagram user named Samyy Ghosh (@beerbiker_samy) from Kolkata has recently imported a brand-new Kawasaki Ninja ZX-25R, which is touted to be India’s first and only Ninja ZX-25R to date. The fully-faired supersport from Kawasaki, which holds the record of the smallest motorcycle to have an inline-four engine currently on sale worldwide, costs RP 105 million (around Rs 5.53 lakh) in Indonesia. Since the motorcycle has been imported indirectly from outside, it would have attracted exorbitant import duties. It means that the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-25R might have cost more than Rs 11 lakh to Ghosh. In addition to this, Ghosh also owns both previous-generation and current-generation versions of the mighty Ninja ZX-10R.

Kawasaki Ninja ZX

For a motorcycle with a quarter-litre engine, the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-25R seems to be extremely pricey at this estimated price point, because the Kawasaki’s litre-class monster, the Ninja ZX-10R costs Rs 15.99 lakh. However, just like the Ninja ZX-10R, the Ninja ZX-25R is an extremely special motorcycle, despite having much lower performance on tap.

The fully-faired Kawasaki Ninja ZX-25R is completely different from the Ninja 250 sold overseas and comes with bodywork inspired by the bigger track-oriented Ninjas like the ZX-6R and ZX-10R. It comes powered by a four-stroke, inline-four, liquid-cooled, 249.8cc engine, which is the smallest inline-four engine in the world right now. With a maximum power output of 51 PS and a maximum torque output of 22.9 Nm, the Ninja ZX-25R claims to be the most powerful 250cc motorcycle in the world right now.

Like any other high-quality Kawasaki motorcycle, the Ninja ZX-25R also comes with premium hardware, comprising of fully-adjustable upside-down front telescopic forks and BFRC mono-shock from Showa and a few electronic riding aids. Currently, there is no direct rival to the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-25R, as it is the only motorcycle to come with an inline-four 250cc engine. However, given its performance numbers, it competes with higher-positioned motorcycles like Honda CBR500R and Kawasaki’s own Ninja 400.

Since it is a fully imported model that comes to the Indian market through the CBU route, there is a 110% tax levy on the vehicle. The high tax ensures that the official price is much higher than what the manufacturer charges in many other countries. However, there are many who prefer such CBU imports over made-in-India or assembled-in-India products due to quality benchmarks. We do hope that Kawasaki service centres are well-equipped to service this motorcycle in future.
