Banking on the rapidly flourishing electric vehicle segment, the car manufacturers in India are ready to go full sends into the environment-friendly car category. So here are the four new affordable electric vehicles slated to hit the Indian shores by next year.
1. Tata Tiago EV
The third electric vehicle from Tata Motors, the Tiago EV is the most affordable electric car in the country. With a starting price of Rs. 8.49 lakh (ex-showroom), the electric hatch is available with two battery pack options, i.e. a 19.2 kWh battery with 250 kilometres of claimed range and a 24 kWh battery that delivers 315 kilometres on a single charge. It used Tata Motor’s familiar ZipTron technology and can go from 0-60 kmph in just 5.7 seconds. Tata Motors is offering the Tiago EV in four variants and the top of the line will set you back by Rs. 11.79 lakh (ex-showroom). Already launched in the market, the deliveries will start from January 2023.
2. Mahindra XUV400
Mahindra & Mahindra revealed the XUV400 on 8th September and it will be launched in January 2023. The electric SUV uses a 39.4 kWh battery pack paired with an electric motor that churns out 150 bhp and 310 Nm of peak torque. With a claimed range of 456 kilometres on a single charge, the SUV is significantly longer than its ICE counterpart measuring 4200 mm. It supports up to 50 kW fast charging that can juice up the battery from 0-80% in just 50 minutes. It is based on the eXUV300 concept vehicle showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo and is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 15-20 lakh, rivalling the Tata Nexon EV.
3. Tata Punch EV
We will most likely see the next big electric vehicle launch from Tata Motors in the form of Punch EV. The mini SUV is a hit in its ICE form with an excellent sales report, and the Indian car marker will definitely utilize its potential in the EV format. Once launched, it will bridge the gap between the Tigor EV and Nexon EV. The Punch is based on the brand’s ALFA platform which is a flexible architecture capable of accommodating an electric powertrain. We expect the Punch EV to arrive by the first half of 2023 in the Indian market and it will directly rival the upcoming Citroen C3-based EV.
4. Tata Harrier EV
If some media reports are to be believed, Tata Motors is expected to launch the Harrier EV in the second half of 2023. Undergoing the Alpha testing phase, the upcoming Harrier-based electric SUV will likely be based on the modified version of the Omega-Arc platform. While the exact details are still unknown, we expect the home-grown car maker to price the Harrier in the range of Rs. 24-26 lakh (ex-showroom).
