Himachal Pradesh CM arrives in Maruti Alto car for budget session

Usually in India, we have seen politicians travel in expensive MPVs or SUVs in a convoy. The same is applicable in the case of Chief Ministers of state, the President and the Prime Minister of our country. Due to nature of their work and security reasons, they are often given these vehicles and convoys. So when you come across something that is different from usual, it does grab attention of the media and public. Here we have a video of a Himachal Pradesh CM arriving in his old Maruti Alto car to attend his first budget session. The video has already gone viral on the internet.

The video has been shared by News18 Virals on their YouTube channel. In this video, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu can be seen arriving at Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha in his old Maruti Alto hatchback. Himachal CM travelled from his official residence, Oakover to attend his first budget session of the assembly. Sukhvinder Singh Sukku was actually on the co-driver seat while the car was being driven by his driver. The Chief Minister was accompanied by Rohit Thakur, Education Minister and Lahaul-Spiti MLA in the car.

The Chief Minister was welcomed by Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan at Vidhan Sabha. When the media asked him about the car, the Chief Minister said, “It reminds me of my old days”. He has been using this car for a very long time and he used this car when he became MLA for the first time. Ever since then he has been using this car to commute to Vidhan Sabha. According to the video, the security officers outside Vidhan Sabha had stopped the Maruti Alto outside Vidhan Sabha. When they saw Chief Minister in the car, they were surprised and let the vehicle go. This is not the first time, people have witnessed the simplicity of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukku. He has been spotted on Mall Road several times in the morning during his morning walk. He even has conversations with people without any VVIP protocol.

We have seen politicians using expensive cars and SUVs to show their strength and sense of authority but, this is probably the first time, we have come across a politician who has used a humble car like Maruti Alto to commute. The car was later parked next to Mahindra Scorpio SUVs used by the security team. Sukhvinder Singh Sukku took charge as the Chief Minister of the state in December last year and this is his first budget session of the assembly. This is probably the first time, we have come across a politician who has been seen with a car like Maruti Alto.

It should be noted that Maruti Alto is not his official car. Last year he had directed to prepare an action plan to replace all government vehicles with EVs. There are politicians like  Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin, Raj Thackeray, Sonia Gandhi, Jyotiraditya Scindia who use expensive SUVs like Land Rover Defender and Range Rovers.
