Earlier this month, Tata Motors introduced two new variants of the popular Harrier for the festive season. The new variants – XMS and XMAS are based on the XM trim but get additional equipment. Tata has now released a new TVC that highlights the features of the new variants. The Harrier XMS gets a price tag of Rs 17.2 lakh while the XMAS (automatic variant) costs Rs 18.5 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. Tata says that it is an introductory price and will be updated later.
Over the XM variant, the newly introduced XMS gets features like a panoramic sunroof, which is in massive demand in the Indian market. Also, additional features include Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and a reverse parking camera system.

Mechanically, there are no changes in the Harrier. It continues to get powered by the same 2.0-litre Kryotec turbocharged diesel engine sourced from Fiat. It generates maximum power of 170 PS and a peak torque of 350 Nm. Tata offers the Harrier with a 6-sped manual transmission and also a 6-speed automatic transmission sourced from Hyundai. The Harrier is a five-seater SUV and takes on the likes of the Mahindra XUV700, Scorpio-N and MG Hector in the Indian market. Even though the Harrier is bigger in size, a significant price overlap with the cars like Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos makes them rivals too.
Tata Harrier facelift coming soon
Tata has been testing the new Harrier facelift under heavy camouflage. The new model will come with a significant upgrade in the features list while visual tweaks will keep it fresh in the market.
The test mule gets rounded headlamps, as the stock headlamps are fully covered by the wraps indicating major changes. The heavy camouflage at the front indicates that the updated Harrier will get a fresh new front end, comprising of a tweaked front grille and new headlamps, which are possible to get all-LED illumination this time around.
The updated Tata Harrier also gets a tweaked design for the front bumper, in the middle of which there is the rectangular part that’s touted to be the radar for the new ADAS system. The direct rival of the Tata Harrier – the Mahindra XUV700 – debuted with a full suite of level-2 ADAS features, and with this new update, the Tata Harrier might also get the same, at least in the higher-spec versions. Tata might even tweak the dual-functioning daytime running LEDs, but will retain the split theme for the headlamps which have become the identity of the Harrier.
Tata Motor has hinted that it will be staying away from the petrol engines for the Harrier and Safari. Most likely, the facelifted version will continue to be offered only with the currently-available 2.0-litre diesel engine. In its current state of tune, the engine can produce a maximum power output of 170 PS and a torque output of 350 Nm. It is offered with both 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission options.
Last year, both Safari and Harrier were spotted testing together under heavy camouflage suggesting that it might get a petrol engine. If we get to see a petrol engine in these SUVs, we can expect to see performance numbers like 150 PS of maximum power and 250 Nm of maximum torque. These figures are somehow lower than the 170 PS of maximum power and 350 Nm of maximum torque from the 2.0-litre diesel engine available in both of them.
