Mahindra will soon take on the Tata Nexon Electric SUV with the XUV400. A video showing a campouflaged Mahindra XUV400 electric SUV on test has surfaced ahead of its official unveil on the 15th of August, 2022. Here, take a look at the upcoming XUV400 electric SUV.

The Mahindra XUV400 Electric, which while based on the XUV300, will have key changes. For starters, it’ll be longer at about 4.2 meters as Mahindra doesn’t need to limit the electric SUV’s length. The Indian government does not offer any excise benefits for sub-4 meter electric vehicles, and this is the reason why Mahindra has no incentive to limit the XUV400 Electric SUV’s length to under 4 meters.

This is a positive change as the XUV400 will have a more capacious boot. The additional length could also make the new electric SUV look more proportional than its internal combustion engined (ICE) sibling. In fact, the video clearly shows the new EV to be longer than the XUV300. A powerful electric motor with a peak power of about 150 Bhp is expected on the new XUV400 EV considering the fact that it squares off against the Tata Nexon Electric.

A range of at least 300 kilometers is also likely. Styling will also be revised as electric cars don’t need a big air dam. As for pricing, expect the Mahindra XUV400 to start from around Rs. 15 lakh for the base trim. We won’t have to wait long for more details as the official unveil is just around the corner.

Notably, Mahindra will unveil 3 other electric SUVs on the 15th of August, which also happens to be India’s Independence Day. Over the past couple of years, Mahindra has been making big splashes on the Independence Day; In 2020, the all-new Thar arrived on the same day while 2021 saw the XUV700 getting unveiled on 14th August. This year, we’ll have 5 new Mahindra electric SUVs being unwrapped. Of these, the XUV400 will be the first to be launched. 2 other electric SUVs could be the eKUV100 and the eXUV700 Coupe. Mahindra, like Tata Motors, has set up a new subsidiary that will exclusively build electric vehicles.

While Mahindra is somewhat of a pioneer in electric four wheeled mobility in India thanks to its acquisition of Reva Electric, the automaker has fallen behind Tata Motors in recent years. The new electric vehicle launch pipeline for Mahindra looks quite promising though, and the automaker could give Tata Motors a run for its money.
